![]() I suggest trying all 3 and getting a refund for the ones you don't want to keep to get a really good feel for it. I would say Goodnotes 5 has a more natural writing behaviour than Noteshelf, meaning, it doesn't feel like it applies anything to my handwriting.Don't get me wrong, Goodnotes 5 is a fantastic app, there's a reason why it's the #1 app in its category, and I am actually trying to use it more often now instead of Noteshelf.Īll 3 apps are very capable writing applications, it really depends on which one makes you more productive and which one can produce the most readable notes for your writing style. Notability is great for handwriting but not great if you also take notes on the laptop. OneNote is probably the best overall - multi platform, good note organization, but handwriting experience is subpar on iPad. ![]() However if I'm going on writing experience alone, I am more biased towards Noteshelf because of the way it makes my writing look even nicer and also because I am probably more used to it now since I've been using it longer than Goodnotes 5. I tried almost all of the popular note taking apps on both Mac and iPad - Apple Notes, Evernote, OneNote, Notability, GoodNotes, Nebo. I can't say if I prefer Noteshelf's UI more or Goodnotes 5. Recently, I purchased Goodnotes 5 out of curiosity and because it was rated as the #1 productivity app in the App Store.to be honest it's not much different from Noteshelf, I mean there are a few things like deeper organization and changing the behaviour of the next page whether you want to scroll horizontal or vertical, and the UI is a bit different. The UI for Noteshelf is also pretty nice, and they do offer a lot of free covers/templates via their Noteshelf Club which is free. I wouldn't say I have terrible handwriting, but the writing in Noteshelf felt like it was applying some sort of enhancing feature to my handwriting which I didn't mind to be honest because at the end of the day, you want your notes as readable as possible so you can review it with ease later. This is how I store organize my GoodNotes folders Quarter>Course>Lecture & Discussion> Syllabus / Handouts, Course Readings, Notes. Being able to store a folder within a folder is indispensable to me. Notability has better tools, but GoodNotes has the superior file system. Also, since you'll be doing online classes, I don't think the recording feature for Notability will be that useful right now.įirst of all, I really love Notability for taking quick notes in class or just doodling because of its infinite scroll feature, however I really enjoyed the writing experience on Noteshelf because it seemed to make my writing look nicer for some reason. I have used both GoodNotes and Notability. **edit**I didn't review Notability that much since I felt Goodnotes 5 and Noteshelf were the most similar note taking apps. If I switch to an iPhone and a MacBook, I'd immediately switch to GoodNotes.I have all 3 apps.I was in the same predicament when I first bought my iPad pro, at the time Goodnotes 5 was still newish and there were a lot of complaints and bad reviews because it was very buggy, so I ended up buying Notability and Noteshelf. The fact that OneNote has applications for almost every platform is the only reason why I'm still using it instead on GoodNotes. ![]() Just the whole Apple Pencil experience with OneNote on the iPad is not very pleasant compared to GoodNotes.īecause it's the only Application where I can take notes in uni on my iPad and then review those notes on my Windows PC and Android phone. The lines look pixelated when zooming on them and not as round as the lines of GoodNotes. Literally every other file system in the world follows the behavior that you outlined, except Notability’s. This is only an issue because the developers behind Notability are supremely incompetent at coding. That's why I'm still using the OneNote for Windows 10 version on my PC.Īlso, the Apple Pencil support on the iPad is terrible compared to GoodNotes or Notability. Or Onenote and Apple Notes (absolutely free and no subscription needed). ![]() The "new" OneNote takes way more time to do the same task and it rotates the pages 90° when inserting a PowerPoint Presentation as PDF in landscape orientation. I also loved how fast OneNote for Windows 10 inserted Printouts and how perfectly everything is adjusted. You can back them up, encrypt and process however you want to. The most important reason people chose Obsidian md is: Everything is stored in your device. Obsidian md is ranked 9th while Microsoft OneNote is ranked 17th. The synchronisation takes more time, and the delay is also annoying. In the question What is the best cross-platform note-taking app. However, in the new OneNote the Math Assistant is missing despite the Microsoft 365 subscription. The math assistant tool is incredible on that version. OneNote for Windows 10 was good and fast. ![]()
